Solid Groove founder Aubrey returns with a definitive EP that throws it back to the 90s with a collection of tracks from his Cheap Knob Gags label that he headed up with Josh Brent aka Schatrax. 'At The Crack Of Dawn (1999) Knob 5' is hot, humid, muscular house with tight synth loops and dusty layers of texture, then 'Bell Ringer (1999) Knob 5' slows it down with a more pensive and dubby groove. Flipping it once more, 'Does He Rent It Out (1995) Knob 1' is a speedy and tightly coiled rhythm with techno synths, tribal percussion and nods to free-tekno. 'Getting Your Palm Read (1995) Knob 5' is an unhinged and manic tool for the freaks and true to the ADHD nature of this EP, 'Manhole (1999) Knob 6' then slows into jazzy loops before 'Manhood 1996 Knob 2' takes off at full throttle once more. Wonderfully mad.

Italo International is a journey through the many shades of elegant and visionary electronic music, moving between Italo Disco, Synth Pop and dancefloor-oriented sounds. The talented and steadily rising Polish producer Rafał Lachmirowicz, aka Also Playable Mono; Hungarian artist Gianni Durante, aka Electro Potato, who for years has been bringing back the sound of early-Eighties Italo Disco with passion and a contemporary sensibility; Norwegian Tommy Holsen, aka DJ TinTin, who together with the Eighties band Go explores the classic sounds of Nordic Synth Pop; British producer Mark Wilkinson, aka Kid Machine, who for over fifteen years has been creating productions made for the dancefloor; Tyrell Corporation, the alias of Dutch producer Alden Tyrell, who joins forces with Italian duo Italoconnection to rework a track destined to set the dancefloor on fire; Swedish multidisciplinary artist Tobias Bernstrup, who for three decades has been reinventing the more sophisticated side of Italo Disco with elegance and a distinctive vision; the Dutch project Sfera Celeste Project, which blends Moroder-inspired sounds with a hypnotic minimalism reminiscent of Jeff Mills; and, closing the journey, British artists Heartbreak, Ali Renault and Sebastian Muravchik, with a poignant and slow-burning excursion into the melancholic world of Synth Pop.

Now they welcome back Adria, three years after his debut, with a heavyweight follow-up that dives deep into the murky edges of dub experimentation. This new release trades dancefloor immediacy for atmosphere and weight by blending low-slung rhythms, hazy tape hiss and hypnotic textures that nod to classic sound system culture. He already made big impact on Adults Esatz Audio label and kicked ass with 2 releases on Klakson. Again he drops 4 deep and dark Drexciya style electro tracks!! He has a cinematic experimental take on what you would call Techno but he is rather hard to classify to be honest. Exactly what we like, somebody who stands out with his typical sound pallet! Another perfect player on this 'Songs For Tova' team is the never disappointing Kassem Mosse with a killer remix to wrap up this high class 4 tracker!

Cititrax present a split EP by two massive talents, Borusiade and The Sixteen Steps. Borusiade, originally from Bucharest, Romania began as a DJ in the early 2000s and then started producing music in 2005. With a background in classical music, she combined her love of raw electronics, obscure themes and melodic lines to create her own signature sound. She has released on the Cómeme label as well as Corresepondent. Infatuation and Confutation are dark, moody and intense tracks that catch you upon first listen. The flip side of the Promises and Infatuation EP features The Sixteen Steps, the brainchild of George Lanham who cut his musical teeth DJing and running events in the south of England. We have been listening to many of his tracks endlessly for a while now. They've also been a highlight of Veronica Vasicka's DJ sets as of late. Signals From The South and Promises On The Run are both immaculately produced, hypnotic, dance floor killers. They are sparse ebm meets smoky warehouse techno, and offer a wonderful contrast to Borusiade's layered emotive tracks that reminisce of an East Village club in the 1980s. Themes of infatuation, appearances, and anonymity appear throughout this EP from the music itself right through to the cover art.

Born in Madrid and now entrenched deep in Boston's underground, Ketzaal operates at the darker more, textural end of the techno spectrum. He shows off that signature again here with a tightly wound four-tracker. Opener 'Placed Upon Thee' lands with great tension, all driving stabs and forward thrust, while 'Final Ritual' dips into a rolling, bass-heavy stride that loosens the grip without losing pace. On the flip, 'The Throne' locks into a head-down groove before 'In Bloom' stretches into something more elusive and shapeshifting. Purposeful construction and a clear sense of function don't mean there isn't plenty of character in these dance floor bombs.

ANNA drops a triple dose of heat to mark her first EP on Drumcode. ANNA first debuted on Drumcode with the irresistable groover ‘Portable Paradise’, which highlighted last year’s A-Sides Vol.7 and set up a busy year playing DC events in 2019.

There was the memorable morning set at Space during WMC, two fiery gigs at Drumcode Festival and typically strong performances at the DC takeover at Resistance in Ibiza and Sonar.

Fresh from her collaboration with Kittin ‘Forever Ravers’, she steps up for a maiden EP on Adam Beyer’s flaghship label. ‘Galactic Highways’ is propelled by an arresting peak-time riff and bombastic drums and was a storming addition to Beyer’s set at Drumcode Halloween recently.

‘Dimensions’ is the powerful brain scrambler, as a blistering wall of acid rubs shoulders with undulating bass notes for an dramatic finish. ‘Phase Two’ is a stirring, pad-laden beauty, driven by lustrous melody lines that cascade over the Brazilian’s punchy percussion.

Machine Girl's debut album celebrates its tenth anniversary with a long-awaited reissue, which marks the first time it arrives on CD as well as vinyl. Originally released in 2014, WLFGRL fused footwork, jungle, digital hardcore and rave into a chaotic, euphoric sound that helped launch a global underground movement. The album's packed with raw intensity and plenty of breakcore influence so it introduced a new generation to extreme electronic music and to celebrate its return, a one-off livestreamed show at Brooklyn's Trans-Pecos accompanied the release. As we are reminded listening back now, WLFGRL is a real high-water mark in outsider music culture.

Luca Lozano has long been an artist whose output as both a producer and designer we've admired and after many years of seeing his records fly off the shelves here at Phonica, we're delighted to be releasing the 'Da Vinci' EP by the Klasse Wrecks boss on our main label. We'll let Lucas, the modern day renaissance man himself, take it from here:

"These four tracks were created over a few sessions while I was settling into a dank basement studio (which was new at the time and now long gone).

‘The Magnificent’ and ‘Delta Force’ were made just after I acquired an old Korg Delta synth, I spent a lot of time getting the 1970s beast to sync up with modern equipment and both tracks make use of it in various elements.

‘Eau De Dave’ is a cheeky homage to a UK producer legend, I’ve been digging into his various older productions recently and went back to a fidget sound for the fun of it.

‘Crunchy Nut’ was kind of inspired by early U.K. tech house, it was the last track confirmed on the EP and came together super quick. As usual it’s a mix of old drum machines like a modded 707 and a bunch of old samples I’ve had on my computer for a couple of decades now. I’m happy I managed to work some slap bass into a track finally…"

The term ‘legend’ is all too often bandied about lightly. In the case of ORLANDO VOORN, it’s almost an understatement. His ‘So Deep Remix’ is a goosebumps-inducing masterpiece in its purest form. Simply wow. FRANKEY & SANDRINO haven’t visited us for a while, but their key still fits the lock. Watch out – “Disruption” might expand your consciousness! Ah, nobody grapples so beautifully with life’s big questions as TEE MANGO, but what would the world be without melancholy? A Disneyland of triviality! TEAM 85E, newly formed around JÖRG BURGER, takes on a classic from the German songbook by Ton, Steine, Scherben and opens hearts with the same ease as others open tins of beer. Speaking of hearts, MICHAEL MAYER pays tribute to the successful Artemis 2 lunar mission, as a small thank-you for reminding us that it should really always be about love. SOG, aka WOLFGANG VOIGT, agrees wholeheartedly. Sometimes all it takes is a bass drum, eight notes and a bit of love for total satisfaction. ROBAG WRUHME does what he does best: luring us down the proverbial rabbit hole like the White Rabbit, just not quite so frantically. JÜRGEN PAAPE, together with FENJA LUDWIG, doesn’t pull a rabbit out of the hat, but rather a modern dub-techno hit. We watch in amazement as a new genre takes shape. Finally, it’s time to sit back and relax with REINHARD VOIGT and just let things be. Cocktail or beer? The main thing is: it’s cold.

Introducing the second release from Principauté de Bowl-Air — PBAVINYL002

Principauté de Bowl-Air is a label founded by DJ Bowlcut, a key figure in supporting Seoul’s underground scene through Seoul Community Radio. The project presents his vision of deep, glitchy minimal house music, woven with the story of a secret micronation hidden in the heart of Seoul.

Following the debut vinyl release, PBAVINYL002 features an original track by DJ Bowlcut alongside reinterpretations by his friends Slowmouth and Furz.

The cover artwork references one of the first K-pop acts to introduce rave sounds to Korean audiences — Seo Taiji and Boys. Their first techno album featured an image of the top of an aluminum can, and PBAVINYL002 draws from the same visual reference. The track “Dig This” also reworks elements from their song “You in Illusions (Techno Taiji Mix).”

The A-side opens with “Falling”, a hypnotic-groove track built around deep synths and designed for afterhours. It works as a perfect DJ tool for gently guiding the crowd into a subtle trance state, further enhanced by the vocal sample “Everybody Falling, Anybody Feel that Falling?”, which pulls listeners into a slow, spiraling moment.

The second A-side track, “Dig This”, takes direct inspiration from one of the earliest K-pop tracks to feature rave stabs, TB-303, and classic rave elements — “You in Illusions (Techno Taiji Mix)”. DJ Bowlcut reuses many of the same samples that Seo Taiji originally layered, reconstructing them into a deep minimal cut with a distinctive Mentasm stab woven into the minimal house framework.

The B-side features remixes by Slowmouth and Furz.

Slowmouth transforms “Falling” into a brighter, more festive exploration that reveals the hidden layers of the original hypnotic groove.
Furz, meanwhile, turns “Dig This” into a funky, dancefloor-ready banger aimed at a wider crowd.
